This is what I started with:
Beef Stromboli Recipe:
1 package refrigerated pizza dough
2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
1/2 pound thinly-sliced deli roast beef
4 oz. sliced Monterey Jack cheese
1/4 cup chopped roasted red peppers (optional)
1 large egg
1 Tbsp. water
2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Unroll refrigerated pizza dough. Spread mustard evenly over dough, leaving a 1-inch border all the way around. Top with roast beef slices, then cheese, then roasted red peppers, if using. Roll up lengthwise, jelly-roll style. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Beat egg and water. Brush over stromboli. Sprinkle cheese on top of stromboli. Bake 25 to 35 minutes, until golden brown on top and cooked through.
Modifications:
-The only thing that I did differently is that after I laid down the cheese, I added a few more slices of roast beef.
-You could substitute any meat or cheese.
-You could add pasta sauce to it.
This is how I did it:
#1 Preheated the oven to 375.
#2 Opened and rolled out the pizza dough. I threw down some flour so it wouldn't stick.
#3 I spread mustard over the dough.
#4 Laid down the deli-sliced roast beef.
#5 I covered the roast beef with cheese and then added a few more slices of meat.
#6 Next, I rolled the dough up and placed it seam side down on a baking sheet.
#7 I cracked an egg and added water to it
#8 Whisked the egg and rubbed it on the outside of the pizza dough.
#9 I sprinkled Parmesan cheese over the stromboli and popped it in the oven for 35 minutes.
(the cheese melted out so I scooped it up and put it on top)
This was SO good. I was right in that it was really easy to make and a perfect lunch. This could be changed in so many different ways. You could add turkey, veggies, different cheeses, chicken, pepperoni, etc. Basically, anything that you like on your pizza could be put into this.
I will say that Kanin knew right away that it had mustard on it. I honestly didn't think about it while I was making it but as soon as he tasted it he asked if there was mustard. I tried to pull it off that it was just part of the cheese sauce but he didn't buy it. LOL
This was probably one of our top favorites of the things I have made recenly. Next time I am either going to try it with turkey, broccoli and cheese (kind of like my favorite Lean Pocket) or I am going to do chicken, spaghetti sauce and mozzarella.
Hope you enjoy!

I guess I never really knew what a stromboli was...? I think the pizza sauce combination sounds good. I'll have to try this one sometime, too.
It's really easy and really cheap and really, really good!
I think I'm gonna do an Italian-type one, with pepperoni & salami, provolone & mozzerella, and pizza sauce. This does sound super easy & good!
I said that today . . . that we could do pepperoni. You could also do a couple and let everyone do like 1/2 of 1. Kind of like making your own pizzas only you roll them up so you could definitely fit 2 on one baking dish.
